The Power of Seaweed

It’s true what they say: the ocean holds the secret to beautiful skin.

Did you know seawater and blood plasma have an almost identical chemical composition? Seaweed naturally absorbs its nourishment from the sea, and as a result, it contains countless minerals, vitamins and beneficial ingredients in high concentrations (no other known plant has a comparable quantity of minerals and vitamins!), making it the perfect solution for treating skin conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea, eczema and acne.

With such a unique element in our products (responsible for improving signs of ageing by toning, smoothing, moisturising and stimulating skin cells), we thought it was time to round up some of the facts about seaweed and let you in on a few secrets about why this natural super-ingredient is so beneficial for the mind, body and soul.

Scientifically proven

We work with the most advanced cosmetic scientists to formulate our products, who confirm seaweed has a profound effect on the skin's collagen production. Did you know type 1 collagen forms 80 percent of the total collagen present in the highest levels of your skin?  Research confirms that seaweed, particularly our Laminaria Digitata and Fucus Serratus seaweeds, improve type 1 collagen production in skin by over 200 percent and 140 percent respectively*.

Seaweed bathing

Seaweed baths are a traditional marine cure therapy. The ancient Greeks believed seawater restored good health, and in 19th century France, seawater was regarded as a complete mineral source that could cure ailments caused by mineral imbalance.

For years, seaweed baths have been used as a way of relaxing, relieving pain and, in more modern times, a way to unwind and de-stress.

When seaweed is steamed, the polymers in the seaweed act as a carrier for minerals, vitamins and proteins, creating a natural alkaline poultice. These amazing, luxurious oils surround the body which is acidic by contrast and by the simple process of osmosis, the body is detoxified and minerals are replaced. Seaweed baths are also a great conditioning agent for the skin and hair!

The benefits of seaweed

Anti-ageing properties

Seaweed contains natural anti-aging properties, so VOYA products are perfect for improving the suppleness and elasticity of skin, stimulating the renewal of damaged skin cells, detoxifying, cleansing, toning and moisturising. Supported by the power of seaweed, our products reduce the appearance of wrinkles and prevent signs of premature ageing, resulting in brighter, younger and fresher looking skin.

Anti-oxidant protection

Seaweed is nature's most powerful anti-oxidant - its abundance of minerals and vitamins are deeply detoxifying, hydrating and nourishing, helping us fight against harmful environmental aggressors and strengthening our immune system.

Improves cellulite

Seaweed aids the contouring process by flushing toxins from the body and increasing lymphatic drainage (reducing the appearance of cellulite as a result).

Improves skin conditions

Seaweed is an effective treatment for conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis and acne. Its therapeutic properties are great for sensitive and allergy prone skin.

Balances metabolism

Seaweed contains iodine, which is essential to regulate the thyroid gland.

Sustainable harvesting

The seaweed used in VOYA products is a fully renewable, natural resource and is carefully harvested by hand under special licence.

There’s no major industry on the West Coast of Ireland so its waters, from which our seaweed is harvested, are among the most unpolluted on earth. The areas we harvest in are surrounded by special areas of conservation.

We use sustainable harvesting practices, taking only a small portion of the seaweed at a time and allowing it to grow back within eight months to protect our delicate marine environment. From sea to skin, we go to great lengths to maintain the unique purity of our seaweed.
