Air travel skin care tips

Cold winter days call for holidays in the sun.

But, if you are jetting off to warmer climes, you don’t want to arrive looking more tired than when you left.

Flying can play havoc with your skin, leaving it dehydrated and lacking in lustre.

A plane’s filtration system creates an environment which is much lower in humidity than what most of us experience in our everyday lives.

If you are not careful, you can step off the plane with dry, chapped skin and wrinkles that you didn’t set off with.

VOYA is proud to be the skincare of choice for Emirates 1st and Business Class. Our certified organic, seaweed-based products were selected to enhance the luxury experience for those travelling in the airline’s premium seats.

Not all of us are lucky enough to fly 1st or Business Class, but by packing a few essential beauty items into your hand luggage can still give your skin a 1st Class beauty treatment while you are in the air.

First and foremost, it’s important to remember it’s an inside job! It is essential to drink plenty of water before you board the plane, and keep yourself topped up during the flight. Aim to drink a cup of water an hour. TIP: take an empty water bottle with you and ask a flight attendant to fill it up for you. Avoid caffeine, salt and alcohol as these are all dehydrating.

It is also vital to keep the surface of your skin clean, protected and well hydrated.

Start the flight with skin that is makeup-free, cleansed and moisturised. Use two layers of your usual moisturiser, or a night cream for extra hydration.

A face mist, like VOYA’s Ritzy Spritzy facial spritz toner, can keep you feeling cool, calm and refreshed throughout the flight and a hydrating facial serum like VOYA’s My Little Hero, which is packed with antioxidants, will give your skin a good boost.

If you are on a long haul flight, then time is on your side, so pop a face mask in your bag if you dare. TIP: choose a mask that is transparent like VOYA’s Maskerade smoothing facial mask, if you don’t want to draw attention to yourself.

Make sure you don’t neglect the delicate skin around your eyes, which is more fragile, prone to dryness and quicker to show fatigue. An eye mask, like VOYA’s Visage awakening eye mask, will soothe, cool and calm tired eyes.

A quality lip balm is also a must-have. It is estimated that water loss from our lips is three to 10 times higher than from any other part of our face or body. Sealing in the moisture with a lip care product like our Balemlicious lip balm will help you avoid chapped lips.

Most of VOYA’s facial products fall within the 100ml hand luggage allowance for liquids and gels, but if you are trying to pack light, it’s a good idea to decanter some off into little travel containers.

No one wants to start their holiday with dry or blemished skin, so upping the ante with your skin care regime during a flight is well worth the effort. Bon voyage!
